Chidananda Dasgupta Memorial Award for Best Writing on Cinema

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA / RULES / SUBMISSION

  • As part of the Birth Centenary Year celebrations of the well known journalist, film critic and filmmaker Chidananda Dasgupta, one of the pioneers of the Film Society Movement in India, the Chidananda Dasgupta Memorial Trust has instituted the Chidananda Dasgupta Memorial Award for the Best Writing on Cinema carrying a cash prize of INR 50,000.
  • Books published in the last five years, i.e. after 1 January 2017 will be eligible. Fresh works of merit written in the years 2019/2020 and not yet published may also be considered at the discretion of the jury. The works submitted should be original critical writings on cinema and not restricted to mere film reviews. In case of articles, a body of works comprising at least 10 articles must be submitted. Writings may be submitted in English or any other Indian language. In case of the latter, there must be an accompanying long synopsis in English.
  • Submissions in digital format along with entry form and other relevant details should be sent as email attachments to cdgmt2021@gmail.com. Hard copies of publications and/or body of works should be sent by courier or speed post to:

    There is no submission fee.
    Last date for receiving submissions is 30 September 2021.
  • The relevant submission form should be completely filled in legibly and sent in along with the publications and/or body of works and other details as mentioned in the form. Incomplete entries will not be considered.
  • The Chidananda Dasgupta Memorial Award for the Best Writing on Cinema will go the the Author.
  • The winner of the Chidananda Dasgupta Memorial Award for the Best Writing on Cinema will be announced at the Centenary Event on 20 November 2021 at an appropriate venue.
